In partnership with the Mentor Public Schools since 2013, Link will continue working with teachers, principals and coaches on-site at the district’s elementary schools through study groups, team meetings, and in-classroom support.
Link’s work in Mentor promotes a district-wide approach to comprehensive literacy and student-centered instruction, while building sustainability through work with district principals and coaches. We are thrilled to continue this successful partnership, and look forward to a productive year with Mentor teachers, administrators and staff!
Slavic Village Schools in Cleveland
In partnership with Third Federal Foundation, Link is facilitating a Parent Leadership Team in Cleveland’s Slavic Village. Now in its fourth year, the team includes parents from Mound, Willow, Fullerton, Warner and Miles Park Elementary Schools in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. This program develops parents as leaders in their school, enabling them to serve as a resource for other parents, and strengthens the link among parents, school and the greater community.
In support of the community’s focus on literacy, the team also spends a portion of its meeting as a Parent Book Club. We know that, when we read in front of our children, we are modeling the joy to be found in a great book! Some of our favorite reads have been Seedfolks by Paul Fleishman, The Pinballs by Betsy Byars, and Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper.
More recently, Link has had the opportunity to work with Bedford teachers and administrators this Spring around comprehensive literacy. Link has been supporting the district, as teachers at the primary and intermediate buildings continue to build their expertise in the use of guided reading instruction.
Link is in a formal partnership with The Literacy Cooperative of Greater Cleveland. The Literacy Cooperative has served as our fiscal agent since 2012, and shares a common goal of promoting learning across greater Cleveland, among both children and adults. Link is proud to be associated with The Literacy Cooperative!
Link purchases many of its books for parent programs locally, through Appletree Books in Cleveland Heights. Appletree frequently recommends books for our Parent Book Clubs … which have been greatly enjoyed by all! This August, Appletree hosted Link’s first “Book Shop with Link” to support the purchase of books for our parent groups.
Third Federal Foundation is currently funding the Slavic Village Parent Leadership Team for families at Fullerton, Mound, Miles Park, Warner and Willow, as well as, the Parent Book Club for parents in the community. Their commitment to the Broadway neighborhood and its residents runs deep, and supports schools, neighborhoods, and the entire Slavic Village community.
With the goal of getting more books into the hands of children in our community, Link has partnered with the Kids Book Bank in Cleveland. Through their generous contributions, we have been able to offer more children’s books to kids and their families who participate in our book clubs and other groups. Most recently, at the Slavic Village “Back to School Celebration” in August, Link distributed over 500 books to children and families in attendance. That’s a lot of books! The addition of the Book Bank’s beautiful Little Free Library at our table didn’t hurt either. 🙂
